For all you Vets out there!

Hello,
I'm still fairly new to deer hunting and still learning from people as I go. My question for you guys that have been doin this for a while is: If you could give somebody one great piece of advice about deer hunting, What would it be?

If bow hunting, the top thing I would consideris scent control, scent control, scent control. Then there is always scent control.

If gun hunting I'd staydown wind. Good luck.

Location and scent control. You have to hunt areas where the deer are, preferably feeding areas, travel routes to and from bedding areas and escape routes when the pressure is on, and if you want to see them on a regular basis you had better learn scent control and play the wind.

Location...location...location....

Scent control should almost be a ritual for you....like you feel wrong if you didnt follow through with all the steps....like somethings missing if you cheat a little. I know if I rush through and forget or skip a phase of my routine, I feel almost dirty when in my stand.

Control your scent as much as possible.

Scent control is number one to me and most of the successful hunters that I know. Always watch the wind and dont hunt stands when the wind is wrong. Thats why i have several different stands hung to use depending on the wind direction.

watch the animal and learn from them. the more you sit in the woods the more you will see. the more you see the more you learn. the more you learn the better you can understand the deer. the better you understand the deer the easier they are to kill (not that they are ever easy to kill).

Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't have time to make them all yourself.
