RE: buckshot
All my shotguns shoot buckshot best with 2-3/4" shotshells and a full choke. Other people's guns shoot best with 3" shells and a modified choke. Some people like 3" with a full choke or 2-3/4" with a modified. You just have to find which brand, length, and choke your gun shoots best.
My Mossberg 500 12 gauge shoots best withFederal 2-3/4"00 Buckshot and afull choke, but it patterns slightly to the right. Not much, but enough to notice. That's why patterning on the range is so important if you want the most out of your gun. |
RE: buckshot
thanks for the welcome and help...I got my tag tonite(wedseday) and some buckshot and slugs and I'll see what works best at the range fri before going out saterday hunting....I'm selling my 870mag and getting a slug gun after the season...I'm just looking to get out in the woods and enjoy myself if I get a very close shot under 40 yards I'll take it..if not I'll just watch them...I'm a old bowhunterI'll wait toget a good shot

RE: buckshot
yep In my remington I use a modified choke and 3" 00 buckshot. I have used 2 3/4 in it also with the same choke tube and still had good results..
but I mainly stick to the 3" good luck man! |
RE: buckshot
I use #1 buckshot in my Remington 870 (more pellets per shell). I have tried both 3" and 2 3/4" shells and found that with a full choke and a 2 3/4" shell of #1 buck, it produces a great pattern. But then, this is from my 870 12GA.
Here's a list of Buckshot for comparision: 3" 000 Buck ----- 36 caliber --- imagine a 9mm handgun with all10 rounds hitting at once. 3" 00 Buck ------ 33 caliber --- 15 rounds hitting at once. 2 3/4" 00 Buck -- 33 caliber --- 9 rounds hitting at once. 2 3/4" #1 Buck -- 30 caliber --- imagine a very slow .30-30, .308, .30-06 with all 16 rounds hitting at once. |
