Default Idaho Public lands Thanksgiving Buck

I filled my tag with this old guy on Thanksgiving Day. The night before I saw a very large buck that I couldn't get a shot on, so went back the next morning. In the very same place I saw some deer running below a skid road and could see an opening they had to cross, so I put my scope on the spot and watched three does run through and then saw horns so I shot. He was not very big, an old guy that was loosing size due to age, and he had 2 busted points on one side. I had passed up bigger bucks this year, but it was nice to have my deer tag filled and have something on the meat pole at our Thanksgiving camp.

I agree there is nothing wrong with the buck, I am always a victim of shooters remorse. I love the hunt so much I always hate to see it end. I had let a very largebuck get away the previous day because I was sizing horns instead of making a shot, so I was a little trigger happy with this guy the next day. While I am not all about the horns, I like to try and take a buck bigger than what I have shot before every year. I have gotten to know the areas I hunt well enough that to take a average 4 or 5 point is not much of a challenge and I could tag out on these type of bucks without much effort, so I enjoy the challenge of sorting through the little guys and letting them walk while I wait for that bruiser to appear.
