RE: Question On 410 And Buckshot For Deer

i say get him the slugs for the 410. he will be fine under 50 yards. ive killed deer and turkey, squirrel, rabbit with my ol single shot 410. given the circumstancs they were 50 yards and less shots. the gun i had was very accurate. ive always liked the 410 and thought it was a good starter shotgun, maybe in a couple years try a youth size 20 gauge. shot placement with the correct yardage to me is the number one key. good luck to him, and post a pic of the deer and gun when he gets his first deer.

RE: Question On 410 And Buckshot For Deer

Yep.. a 410 slug will do the job! that is exactly what my son used to get his first deer this year. at close to 50 yrds with a mossberg 505 .410 pump... modified choke,3 in. slug he put it right thru the vitals.. it took one step and droped right there.
Good luck, hope he gets one!

RE: Question On 410 And Buckshot For Deer

410 will kill a deer for sure, giving you shoot 40 yardsand under. I have killed numerous deer, 5 to be exact. All under 40 yards. Slug is the only way to go. I use brenneke slugs and 3 of the 5 deer drop in thier tracks, the other 2 ran under 80 yards and dropped dead. This was 14 years ago, I wouldn't hesitate to use the 410 again for close range hunting.
