Hunting Knife
Hi There,
I'dlike to get a hunting knife for my dad this Christmas, but I'm not a hunter myselfso Iam at a loss as to what I should be looking for. My dad mostly deer hunts, but will takeoccasional trips with friends for bear, elk, etc.Any insight from an actual hunter about brand, size, or anything else would be greatly appreciated. I'd like tokeep the price under $150.00. Any suggestions?

RE: Hunting Knife
I've carried a Buck 110 for over 25 years and it is a great hunting knife. They can be had for as little as $29 on sale to as much as $45. This knife will last him, you, and his grand children a lifetime.

RE: Hunting Knife
I'd go with Buck as well. I also found that I like a fixed blade knife with a gut hook the best.Folding knives tend to get a lot of deer guts caught in the recessed part where fixed blades can be wiped off and cleaned much easier. The gut hook is used to open a deer's cavity without popping the stomach which can be a mees if it happens. Also, I avoid knives with serated blades as the are much harder to sharpen and to me don't seem to serve any purpose other than looking cool.
Two good knives to consider would be the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series or Pro-Line Alpha knives, both are madeby Buck.
