food plots or baiting?

I live in Indiana and in our regulations it statesthe following
It is illegal to use bait, salt, snares, dogs or
other domesticated animals to take deer. Bait
is considered any product that is transported
into a hunting area and placed there for animal
consumption. Baits can be in the form of salt,
mineral blocks, prepared solid or liquid which
is intended for the animal to eat. An area is
considered to be baited for 10 days after the
removal of the bait and any affected soil.

So my question is this, is it legal to plant a food plot on out private land and hunt it? what is the difference between planting crops and food plots? They both are used by animals. thanks.

Yes it is legal in Indiana to put out a food plot on private land. Im not totally sure what the difference is between planting crops and a food plot, but I do know planting foodplots is legal.

Slightly different method in baiting but it is still using food to attract deer. The one thing that is the big difference is that baiting usually is placing a small amount of bait in one or a few locations; where a food plot is using a realatively large food source to attract them. I have hunted over both scenarios and prefer a good food plot. Obviously you need you need the private land for the food plot so it does limit someones abaility if they do not have access to private land that has an adequate food source.
