This Makes Me Sick.

Every year about this time.
In the rural roads.
Some Sicko So Called Hunter, Dump's their deer carouses.
It is not only sick, But It Looks Bad On Hunters as a Whole.
I understand there is parts left over.
Instead of dumping on the side of the road,
why can't they take it in the woods for the animales to eat.
Or use it for coyote bait.
I was driving home on a rural rd, and right at5 foot from thestop sign.
A Big Black Leaf Bag, Open with deer guts, and fur pouring out, only 1 ft from the road.
It just makes me SICK.

So what does every one else think of these so called hunters?

Thank You

jrbsr

I hear ya Jr...I cannot stand that either. Down here we have a bunch of little pull off spots on the main interstate that runs through part of our rural town, which have picnic tables and a few trash bins...well every hunting season those trash bins AND picnic areas become deer dumping grounds...It makes me want to vommit. I mean how lazy can one be..they have the energy and time to dump it there, then they should be able to go a few more miles and dump in the woods to feed scavengers, or bury it. LAzy, disrepectful people is what they are...

Here there is also a lot of "hunters" that shoot the deer , cut of the rack and dump the rest..see that a lot on the backroads in the ditches...
People like that should have thier hunting priveldges revoked in my opinion..

This sounds corny, but in my few years of hunting I have more respect for the animal than to dump his remains in such a fashion.

My big cream dream is to find a dump spot like that, but one where they also included household trash, including junk mail with their address on it[:@]

"You can't fix stupid."

I was asked by a property ownernot to leave the guts in the woods 'cause his dogs drag stuff to the house,so I bagged 'em up. What to do with them? I slipped them in a dumpster behind a restaraunt hoping that it would just blend in with the garbage.

I kept thinking about it and didn't have a good feeling about it. Could make a bad impression for hunters.

Next time I just put the bag in my own trash and felt sorry for the poor garbage collector.

If I'm where I can I will usually take the ribcages to a creek bed somewhere.

Thats just stupid they shouldn hunt if there gonna do that non sense. i either throw guts in the woods or barry it

Why do people think creek beds are the place to throw carcasses? Just toss them in the woods!! Don't contaminate water with carcasses!

RE: This Makes Me Sick.

I dont put them in the creek bed or river bed but i do dump them near by because the amount of traffic from coons, possums, fox, and yotes that use those bottoms. I usually place them 50 to 100yards from the water, and there usually gone with in a few days. If i leave them on some ridge i might come back a month later and see a frozen gut pile.

RE: This Makes Me Sick.

Not my intention to offend anyone.

I toss them in there where they're out of sight and I for SURE aint gonna leave in the woods where I'm hunting.
I figure what the coons & coyotesdon't get the turtles will.

If you have lots of varmints then it doesnt really matter where you dump them, they will get taken care of quick. I can dump a whole wheelbarrow full of coon carcasses or a deer carcass at the corner of my dad's property (only about 200 yards from his house) and it is pretty much gone in a few days because of the coyotes, possums, and buzzards. Of course, given that the ground is pretty soft during much of deer season, I often wonder why people don't just dig a whole. Doesn't take much to cover the guts and portions of the carcass that are left after butchering and quartering.

Don't like how hunters do that. Leave the guts in the woods for the animals that eat them to eat. I agree: That does look bad on hunters.

Yep, if you are dumping it on other peoples land, then it is worth the effort to dig a hole rather than risk ticking off the landowner.

I know of three or four places that people dump whole deer. One of them is a small creek, they just pull on the wooden bridge and throw the deer in the creek. Game warden says it is almost impossible to catch someone that is doing it.

Has it occurred to anyone, that there are deer carcasses, from road kills, all over the side of every road ,where deer live, anyway? Only the visible ones are ever picked up by the road dept.

I dont think ribcages on the side of the road are pleasant to look at, but miles into the woods, or buring the entire carcass , do you guys really do that?

When a deer dies in the woods naturally, no one burys it, the scavengers eat the flesh, and the mice eat the horns and bones, why should it be any different when I kill it I drag it a little ways in the woods and leave it, and its gone in no time, whats the big deal?

Lanse couche couche 11-19-2008 12:07 PM

RE: This Makes Me Sick.

Not a big deal unless it is someone else's land and they don't want that. If it is your land or the owner does not mind at all, then dump away. But, otherwise, it might be worth the time to dig a whole to avoid possible problems.

RE: This Makes Me Sick.

We had a big problem with dumping dead deer heretwo year ago. Itwas on thefront page of the paper. There was a bunch of guys from the east side of the state that leased a huge amount of land next to us and they shot everything in sight and only cut racks off the bigger bucks. They thru the whole deerout on acounty road where theres no houses in sight between there camp and town.We can kill 3 does a day here but only 2 bucks a season so they would only tag what they was hauling home for the wall. Everything else hit the side of the road. Monday after opening weekend there was 20+ whole deer laying there. Mostly doesbut there was a few 4,6, and small 8 points. We drove by there camp Sunday at lunch and they had a 4 wheeler trailer loaded with does and small bucks. They wasn't even field dressed. When they went thru town Sunday night heading home they had 2good bucks on there trailer and no other deer so we know they did it. They dumped at 2 spots that I know of like that but one was on an access road that we use and they thru about 10 out there off a steep hill. They only leased it one year but they killed a huge amount of the deer. I hunted my place last year and killed one deer. Before them youwould see on average 2-5 deer in the mornings and evenings but not now. Theout of state guys are morerespectful here than the in state yahoo's that lease land on the other side of the state just to drink and kill everything that moves.I wish the state would break up into areas and make you hunt within your area like the county you live in and surrounding counties or something like that. That way they woundn't do that mess if they couldn't get away from it and new they would have to hunt there for years to come or atleast close. Sorry about the long ranting but that still makes me made just thinking about it.

Yes, that does make me sick! I hunt on public hunting ground and last year someone dumped the remains right on the edge of the parking area. Could of least walked 50 ft in the woods to dispose of it.

I know the feeling. One of the backroads I sometimes take into work somebody dumped a garbage bag full of deer guts, hide, etc. on the side of the road. They take the time to clean the whole deer and find a "convenient" spot to dump it. Looks horrible on all hunters. Luckily this is just a side road but it still makes me furious!

RE: This Makes Me Sick.

I always bring my deer home and process them. Then throw the carcass in the garbage. I dont see any problem with that at all. Gut pile stays in the woods. Doesnt affect my hunting at all.

Last year someone dumped their deer hides and bones in our dumpster at our cabin along with their junkmail and other asorted garbage so we knew were their place was so we took i back to their cabin and threw it on their front steps with a note that we had contacted the proper authorities the next day we went out hunting and low and behold when we came back they had thrown it in our driveway with a note that said if you dont want us using your dumpster get rid of it and dont call the police or else needless to say we contacted the police and the DNR with no help because the hunters were from illinois. But on a high note the Dnr has already contacted us abou t the people that did this and they are going to try to get ahold of them this year as they have found out that they rent that cabin for hunting season every year cant wwait to see what happens.

The plastic bags upset me far worse than a biodegradable carcass. Fifty yards out of sight, and away from your stand/blind,as long as it's not on public land, is fine with me.

RE: This Makes Me Sick.

You would be suprised at how many gut piles I have left in the woods after gutting a deer to make it lighter to drag out. I have returned to the stand two days later and the mess is scavengered. Its gone and to be honest I have killed a deer at the same time a gut pile was in sight of my kill. The nature of that stuff in the woods feeds the food chain, and sure isnt going to affect the deer.

Carcasses area different case. I dispose mine in places out of sight and where othersdo not hunt. Buzzards pick them clean in a day and the yotes, foxes, and even bear will deveour them within a day our two leaving only a skeleton. This usually gets dragged off out of site by dogs or yotes.

Sides of roads is just lack of commonsense and irrisponsible to the land owner or neighbors who have to see them. Dump them out of site and let mother nature and the food chain dispose of them

I solved this a long time ago...its called a deer processor. Plus I find I use MUCH more of the meat when its all fixed up and packaged nice. Worth every thin red dime if you ask me.

We have Valley Protein come pick up all of the left over deer parts. We barrel them up and move them to the side of the path and they pick them up. We used to have a gut field that we had a big hole in and dumped them there and covered it with wood. That has been years ago. I do not think that it is that hard to do the right thing with the left overs. Some of the things listed gives antis ammo.

I'd have to agree with Hoyt 100%. Mother Nature can do her thing with no harm caused by the hunter.

I used to think that way too until an old farmer climbed my butt because the huge skinned out boar coon carcass that i left on his property a half mile from his house ended up getting dragged into his front year by his dog. Its also amazinghow far even a relatively small dog can drag a deer head and two or three feet of backbone. But if you are just out in the country for a few days during deer season you tend to not notice stuff like that, but the folks living there do and sometimes they have a long memory. When in doubt, bury it.

I found a spot that people were dumping there deer fight on the road. There was a brown tarp and like 4 mostly deboned deer on top, some of them only had half of there hind quarters cut off. They were taking up almost half of the road too.

RE: This Makes Me Sick.

I don't have a problem with gut piles in the woods, but gut pules in garbage bags on the side of the road, that bothers me. As far as how leaving gut piles effects deer, I don't know if it does that much. My brothers father-in-law told me he watched a deer step in a gut pile he'd left earlier in the day. He said that the doe just sniffed the pile and casually went about her business, which was to walk right into his shooting lane. Her gut pile joined the one she'd stepped in a few seconds earlier. I leave my gut piles in the woods. Something will eat it soon enough, and what isn't eaten will bio-degrade into dirt before the trees fill out the next spring anyway.

I agree. A guy around here slaughtered a cow and he dumped the entrails on state land in a swamp. Some hunter turned him and and now he has to pay to have all the wells tested in the area. It's gonna cost him big bucks.
