totally agree, you should only take a shot that you are 100% confident with.

There's a difference between taking the first shot you feel you can make, and taking the first shot opportunity.

I have waited for opportunities that I knew I could make to get better, only to have the deer spook. Now I take the first shot I feelconfident I will make.

If you didn't have confidence you did nothing "wrong". If you felt you could make the shot but wanted a better one, well, you learned what I did. He's till out there, and so are other deer, so no big deal. Get him this weekend.
