2008 Nothern VA 8-point
 

Hi all, I had some good luck this morning on the opening day of rifle season. Shot this guy at 0630 north of Leesburg, VA.




I went to the Boone and Crockett site and here's what I got:

Category: Whitetail
Number of Points: 8
Greatest Spread: 18 4/8 inches
Total Deductions: 3 3/8 inches
Final Score: 132 2/8

What do you think the rack will gross score? What is the inside spread looks real wide.

I don't really know anything about scoring deer. I've never shot one that seemed worth scoring.

Nice buck, congratulations. I'm not good at scoring, but I would guess around 130, give or take 5.

Gratz. What a nice looking buck.Im still working on mine hoping for some good tracking snow. Suppose to get some this week I guess and Ive got thursday and friday off .

North of Leesburg. I used to work east of there at Iridium. Nice country for hunting. or so it seemed as I never had a place around there to hunt.

In Leesburg there is bound to be another 100 or so, just like that. Don't quit now, you guys need to put a hurtin on the does up there. I think your still #1 in deer population in Viginia. Nice buck.

You're right about that. With all the development up here (subdivisions and office complexes), The deer population has exploded. I've killed six per year (2 bucks, 4 does) for the last four years but it doesn't seem to have made a dent. Here's another picture:

And one last picture. He's got a little drop tine budding right near my thumb. First time I've ever shot a deer with one of those.

I forgot to mention yesterday that I found the bullet while I was skinning him. He was quartering slightly toward me when I shot him, so the bullet took a pretty long path from one side of the animal to the other. Consequently, I think, the round had lost a lot of energy when it hit the hide on the other side and, so, lodged there. Here are pictures for any one interested in bullet performance. The round is a Winchester Ballistic Silvertip in .270WSM, 150gr. The shot was from approx. 50 meters. Here is the front of the slug.

Great area, i have farm in Lovettsville. Good deer inbetween the two. Awesome work. Saw some decent ones on Saturday but no shooters. At least you were done before the down poors came.

I hunt out in Lovettsville, occasionally, on a small farm off of Morrisonville road. That's a very nice area.

Beauty!! I used to hunt near Leesburg, but now the area is one big development. Ever hunt Quantico?

No, Mac, I've never hunted Quantico. How is it down there? Is it difficult to get permission? Are there a lot of hunters down there?

Where I hunt is a small cattle farm along the Potomac. The development has actually helped me in terms of the number and size of deer I see, since there are fewer places to hunt up here, and fewer people hunting.
