Problem sighting in my gun.....
 

I shot my 12 Benelli yesterday, but couldn't get aconsistant group. Here's the situation:
Equipment:
12 Gauge Benelli Nova Rifled Barrel
2/3 Lightfield Sabots (1.25 oz)
Bushnell Scope

1st shot 25 yds.= hit within' 1 in. of bullseye up and to the left.
2nd shot 80 yds.=a foot low and a hair to the right
3rd shot 50 yds.=low and to theright about 6-8 inchs
Intermission to tighten down scope.
4th shot 25yds=high to the right
5th shot 25 yds=right level

I do not understand why I was so completely off....I didn't have a shot that seemed even remotely close to another, even though most were to the right. I'm going to shoot again today, and I'm going to make sure I shoot from one consistant spot, such as 25 or 50yards until it's consistant. Any advice???

your problem might be that you need to sight your gun on like some kinda mount(i use some sheets piled ona card table to sight mine in) also i have never known beneli to be good deer guns JMO

to start off, stay at one distance until you figure out the problem. also take some different slugs with you, your shotty may not like those particular slugs. make sure you have used loc-tite on your scope rings and base (a shotguns recoil will loosen up the screws).

You have thrown in too many variables...

Yes, you should definitely shoot at one distance from a steady benchrest until you figure out what's going on...

Make sure everything is tight and nothing is moving...

Once you are sure that everything is tight and that you feel that you are shooting well ( it's easy to flinch with slugs), if the gun still does not group well, it's time to try some other brand or type of slugs..

I'll try to help.

Yes stay at one distance and 25 yards is fine to start.

Is there any chance you are flinching?

Remember to use the pad of your trigger finger - not the joint.

Time you shot with your breathinh - gently, smoothly and consistently squeeze the trigger starting at the beginning of an exhale.

If you are not flinching or jerking the trigger and you can't get a grouping you need to start with the mechanical basics.

- Is that barrel FULLY seated and the nut TIGHT?

- Are the scope rings fastened to the cantilever mount securely?

- When the rings ate tight to the lever mount are they in alignment?

- Are the scope rings tight on the scope itself?

One thing I like to do on all the screws associated with scopes is to align the slots of the screws all in the direction of the length of the firearm. This way should anythong start to loosen I can visually verify that by the slot falling out of alignment.

If all of this checks out, you could have a bad scope.

12ga with a cheap scope usually is asking for trouble, try open sights and see if it improves. It could also be the ammo, but not likely if it's that bad. If it shoots that poorly with open sights, try some different slugs. Problem is probably with the scope/mounts/rings.

always shoot in groups of threes that way if you are on with one shot and way off with the other two you can work with that variable and always start at 25 yards and work your way out to 100 yards. Ex. 25, 50, 100 this will keep down the frustration and help the experience go better.
