RE: A .270 Sucks????
the .270 is a perfect whitetail round. Without knowing this guy my first thought is that he is one of those "real men shoot big magnums" type of guys. Perhaps he was just trying to talk you into buying a more expensive magnum rifle. Do they get commission for their sales there? never trust the advice of a man working on commission

that guy is full of you know what. i've killed deer with bow and arrow, muzzle loader, handgun, and five different rifles chambered for four different cartridges. each of these types of weapons have one thing in common to do their job effectively. proper"SHOT PLACEMENT". there areno magic bullets or cartridges. but, there are many that are very effective when proper"SHOT PLACEMENT" occurs. the .270 is still around and is very popular for a reason. because it's one of the greatest deer hunting cartridges that one can buy.
i hunt with two guys that hunt with 30-06's and they have lost deer. was it the cartridges fault? absolutely not. poor shot placement and bad tracking skills (tracking too soon) were to blame.

Im 4 for 4 with my 270 2 of which fell where they stood...lol probaly be 6 for 6 here in a few short weeks....I was 3 for 3 with my open sight 30-06 as well. I can assure you that not every shot i have taken has been perfect, but i always have been able to recover the deer. Taking bad shots with any gun can result in a loss. 270 is a perfect gun for whitetail.
On another note 7mm-08 is a awesome short action caliber for whitetails. Friend of mine has a model 7 in 7mm-08 and it is just devistating with 140gr Nosler Partitions. Ill eventually add one to my collection as well.

Whoever told you that needs a sack punch, thats the only caliber I use for deer, whitetails and mule deer. Perfect gun IMO. Sure people like different guns, My friends and family use 30-06, 7 MM and such, but for someone to say a .270 is a bad gun is a moron. Personally, I would never go back to that store, seems like they have little knowledge on hunting.

Theres two type of people in this world, those loyal to the .270 and those loyal to the 30.06. I use my 30.06 when im hunting brush i load 165HPBT Sierra Gamekings. I use my .270 when i hunt fields and i use a lighter load 150gr Spitzer BT. As for nockdown and accuracy its all in ur ammunition. I just got a .270 Remington CDL SF. And it is a awesome gun. If ur looking at that one then get it, the new trigger and the recoil pad on it is great.

I have used a .270 for 15 years. Only lost 1 deer which I grazed and was later killed by a buddy of mine with his muzzleloader. Was a decent 8 point[:@].Never lost a deer that I actually hit.Where I hunt the .270 is perfect, rarely any shots over 100 yds. and a big deer in my area would be 150lbs.

Almost any caliber of rifle will work. Whenmy brothers and I were little weused a 223 and had no problems and we rarely shotunder 100 yards. Its a matter of where you hit the deer. In South Texas, we tend aim at the neck...unless we know we're going to shoulder mount it. 99% of the time you hit the neck, break the spine, andthe deer drops. Lets face it...if you aim at the neck and the deer doesn't drop then you missed...haha. That way if its a nice deer you know you won't hit it and not find it.
