RE: Your tricks to staying warm during rifle season
When its real cold I will wear my overalls on top of cabelas extreme polar long johns top and bottom, with a wool shirt and pants. Boots would be sorels or my Meindl 800 gram thinsulates with myinsulated boot socks over them. Thick merino wool socks seem to work best for me.Thesmartestthing I have ever done was bring a blanket in the woods with me and sit on it with it draped over mylegs and torso.
I think if I hunted canada or minnesota I would get a heater body suit.

I wear liner socks then wool socks then 2000gram pac boots on the feet.
Red head Endura Skin, Polypro Unders, then insulation layer, and water/windproof layer
I just got a Blaze orange hood by underarmor and it is AWESOME should serve well during gun season!

The key is to not sweat...pack out your heavy clothes and then put them on when you get in your stand.

It's a small version of a thermarest mattress. Role it up, put it in your pocket and it inflates by itself at the stand. Extremely comfortable.

Besides the obvious of wearing layers and a wicking layer closest to skin, I have to go with the disposable heat packs.
When it's gonna be really cold I duct tape a larger one to my chest so it'llslightly warm the heart and the blood it circulates and one normal size one to each inner thigh to warm the main artery bringing blood to my lower legs and feet - no cold toes.
If I have ANY question that once out I might get cold I make sure to bring the packs and a little duct tape with me. I'd rather make some noise and movement for a minute or two than leave the woods.

And if it's gonna be really misearable out I just might bring a sleeping bag to squeeze in. Sleeping bags are great for kids to keep them from getting cold cause once their cold its downhill from there real quick. They can hunker down in there for little breaks, a nap or play a DS or something with an earphone.

Some info from a Canadian hunter that finds it not unusual to hunt all day in -30 weather. Layering is very important. The mistake that most people make is that they are layering, they usethe same size clothing which constricts and actually makes it worse. Its worth the dollar to buy a couple of thermal fleece a size or so bigger so they do not constrict the inner layers. Same goes for footwear. Buy your boots a size bigger so that you can wear a couple of pairs of wool socks. Wool is a great insolator. UnderArmor heat gear really wicks of the sweat and I never thought it was worth the price till I broke down and bought some. Remember to unzip while you are moving around so youdo not sweat up. If you do it is a real killer for cold. I bought some bibs a few years back and they have really helped keep the lower back warm. Just a couple of ideas from the great white north.

Layers
Thermal long johns (the good ones with moisture wicking)
Sweatpants/sweatshirt
Thermal socks, then a pair of wool socks
Insulated, camo overalls, made by Walls.
Gore-tex insulated camo gloves
Thinsulate lined insulated camo boots
Gore-tex insulated blaze orange hat (w/ earflaps)
..and lastly, a few heat packs in case it really start getting nippy.
