How much do antlers change from year to year?

I was wondering if anyone knows how much antlers on mule deer change from year to year! I am hunting a big muley and have got a really good look at him. He is a non typical 7x7 and i found what i think is his shed from the previous year, except this year he has a 5 inch kicker off his G-2 that is not on his shed from last year. Theres not even a dimple on the shed that looks like it could be there. Can that grown in one year? Any help would be great

Thanks

The amount of change is related to genetics, stress (winter/food/water, etc), nutrition and maturity. All things being equal it is possible for deer( be it WT or Mule) to put on several inches of antler growth from the previous year. Just as it is possible for either to lose inches due tomaturity levels (over peak), low nutrition and heavy stress.

To your question is it possible for your mulie to grow a 5" kicker in one year...absolutely. Wether its the same deer? Only you can answer that as you have all the evidence to cross reference and come to that conclusion.
