butcher's stumped

I harvested a buck yesterday evening. While skinning it last night, I found a pocket of tissue that was completely under the skin of a hind leg. A clear fluid came from the pocket which runs from the shin area of the leg through the meat of the ham, and into the hip socket. The tissue is lighter colored, almost a white, and very leathery. There are also some spots of blood, about the size of a pin head spread througout the white tissue. Anyone have any idea what this might be, and if the meat is wothless, or if I can salvage some of this deer? Hillbilly

Just sounds like an injury. Discarded that area and keep the rest.

I would not eat the deer myself. I've got a friend that has a fox/coyote running pen and I would probably just feed the coyotes.

I had one like that in southern Minn 3 years ago. Butcher said old wound that led to a tumor. He just cut it out around the pocket. The surrounding meat was still good.

I shot a buck about 10yrs ago and the left hind quarter had to be thrown away due to broadhead wound. The blade was still in him, which it may have worked it's way out eventually. Will never know. The deer was not sick and the meat was fine except that hind leg which I threw in the trash. My quess is a archery miss..
