Now, I'm 53...We own our own farms and I started deer hunting by myself by the time I was 14...My dad would drop me off at one of the farms and tell me to protect the peanuts...My rifle, a 22-250...

I had killed 5 before I started deer hunting, with a .22 to the brain while squirrel hunting...We butchered our own cows and pigs and I had seen dad kill many pigs with a .22 to the brain from a .22 revolver...

Last year, we killed 46 on our 3 farms, I killed 8 does and 1 buck...I've never claimed to be a trophy hunter and hunting your own land and farming, you realize that the population has to be kept in check if you plan to raise a crop the following year...Frankly, I'd rather seen my hunting buddies kill a good buck then do it myself...

I have hunted for 14 years. 15 with a gun and 11 with a bow.

I guess I am in the minority here...6 deer (5 bucks and 1 doe) in 18 years. I know that's not good odds, but have I ever mention that I just love being in the woods.

I have been deer hunting since 1983 and have actually lost count, but a couple of years ago, I was at 174.

I hunt in Oklahoma and Texas, and on my place here in Texas, I get 7 extra management doe tags. I am allowed a buck and doe in both rifle and muzzleloader seasons, and that is 4 deer from OK. I am allowed a "cull" buck and another over 13" spread buck here in Texas, and with the doe tags I am allowed, that is a total of 9 deer here. At 13 deer per season, a body count of 200 is not a stretch.

I am predicting the next question being what do I do with the meat. My family eats alot of venison, but I give several deer a year to a friend who distributes it to low income people in his church.

As of Monday, the body count for 2008 is two, and Texas rifle season opens Saturday.
