the ballistic silvertip is a rapid expansion bullet, however in the 150 and 160 gr and up are of a heavier jacket but wil still provide judicous expansion. Great bullet, has killed many a deer

Grasshopper-he's talking about a different bullet. You're talking about the old winchester silvertips that had a silver color tip covering just the nose of the bullet. He's talking about the premium loading of the ballistic silvertip which is the EXCELLENT nosler ballistic tip coated different color to be used in winchester ammo.Go for them as you're going to be looking for a LOOONG time for a better bullet than the combined technology ballistic silvertip. I would go with the 150 gr if you can find them and they'll cleanly kill a deer out further than you can hit it.
ORIGINAL: Grasshopper13 The winchester silvertips are made for bigger game. In my experience, a deer shot with the silvertips won't get you much of an entrance or exit hole. I shot a doe at about 60 yards with them one year, and the bullet actually just punched a hole clean through her. The bullet is built to expand slower, so as to get better penetration on larger game. I've actually had very good results with plain old Remington corelokt 150 grain bullets. My Model 700 shoots them pretty good and they perform well on whitetail sized game. GH |

They are great for deer. Accuracy trumps most anything when hunting. You will kill more deer with an accurate gun loaded with cheap ammo, than with a poorly shooting gun loaded with premium ammunition. If its grouping like you say it is, forget what anybody else has to say and shoot what your gun likes best.

Thanks. It does group great I just wasn't sure how this bullet would do when hitting a deer. That's why I was concerned. I may just use them then.

I use the balsitic silver tips with my .308 and I can't say a bad thing about them. I would definately recommend them.
