Default RE: Do bucks ever run onto roads?

I have seen several bucks which have been run over, but very few of them still have their antlers. I think people tend to cut the antlers off after hitting or finding a freshly killed one.

About ten years ago I was driving home from a long day of hunting and all of a
sudden a huge buck hurdled over the guardrail and landed on the windshield of
the car right in front of me. The car weaved back and forth and deer hair filled the
sky in front of me. It was a very nice 8 pointer. What a waste. Also, last year my
buddy nailed a nice rack buck with his pick-up 1/2 mile from his house. $3000
worth of damage but the buck jumped up and limped into the woods. We searched
for hours to find it but could not. The moral of the story is you don' t have to look that close, they will find you.[8D]

There' s one in my freezer that died this way. At first glance though I would have said he was a doe but on closer inspection saw where the antlers were ( shed not cut). Then of course field dressing removed all doubt along with everything else.

I hit a mature buck two years ago. I saw the buck just before I hit him, either a 4x4 or 5x5. Both antlers broke off right at the skull and there wasn' t much left of the pieces. I would guess this is fairly common with bucks that get hit. Look like does laying beside the road.

One of the largest bucks in NC was killed by a vehicle. I see plenty around here but generally more button bucks and does.

It can depend on where you live. If you live in an area with lots of does, you are more likely to see a road-killed doe.

Yes they do. I hit a six pointer several years ago and have had several close calls with bucks standing on the road side. Seems like I see the most bucks on roadways during rifle season, which is about the same time as the rut in my region.

Two years ago I came upon a stopped car in the road that had just hit a real nice
8 to 10 pointer.
