Researching is great for hunting, but it's not so much about making conscious decisions always,it's about ingraining ethics, and good strategy and knowledge, into your INSTINCT, so that you don't have to think about it. There's always going to be calculated decisions you have to make, such as stand location, no doubt, but in general, when hunting on the ground, it's about fast decisions, where you've got to understand the woods, understand behaviour, movement, you gun, etc. Just stuff that you won't have time to think about.

It's about getting it into you, as a part of you instinctive reaction, not just sampling ideas.

ethics....and i hope your not trying to learn from people on here. hunting is something that i think has to be taught first hand. i think it is more of a tradition than a sport. i dont know just my two cents

Be prepared to be skunked. If you go out there 100% expecting to shoot something, you'll be deflated when it doesn't happen. I'd say that the majority of hunters on any given day come home empty handed. Just be patient and stick to it and eventually one will make a mistake and give you a shot.

Dress appropriately so you can stay out as long as you want, the longer you're in the woods the better your odds of seein deer!
