if a deer's eyes reflected red, i'm thinking it would be because it had pink or red eye's like an albino. most animals eye's that reflect red are predators not herbivores.

I was hiking out with my red led light, saw deer looking at me, reflected the red light. I thought it was a couple of reflective tacks until it turned and went crashing through the woods.

It is normal for the eyes to reflect red (not only in deer); it is known as the red reflex. The back, inside surface of the eye is the retina, which is filled with tiny blood vessels. When light hits those blood vessels, it is reflected back as red, which is what you were seeing.

I've spotlighted a lot of deer and have seen both the red and green eyes in a field. I don't think it has anything to do with the deer's sex.
