Deer with a collar?

I saw something with my own eyes and I am still confused. I was walking to my stand with my wife and saw two fawns and a doe step out. The doe had what a ppeared to be a double collar on (no, I was not drinking or smoking anything). One of the collars was tighter around the neck like a dog collar, while the second one could slide up and down her neck but was connected to the lower collar. They were both perfectly round, so it did not appear that she had been tangeled in anything. She was apporimatley 45 yards away and both collars were orange. I am in Southern Michigan and wanted to know if any of you have seen something like this, know of tests the DNR is doing, opinions on what this might be, etc...
I am hoping that she comes in while I am in my stand so I can get a closer look. Let me kow what you think and I will try and get more information.

The Michigan DNRuse radio collars quite frequently. Alot of times they will be doing research with colleges and universities or just simply for their own studies. Call your local DNR office and they may be able to give some more info. As far as I know, there is no rule about harvesting a radio collar/tagged deer. Just be sure to call if you do take her.

I haven't seenanyon wilddeer but I have killed three cow elk with either collars or ear tags. One had a radio collar, one had a ID collar that was almost ripped in halfand an ear tag and thethird had two ear tags. All three elk were killed in Colorado wilderness miles away from civilization and reported to the colorado DOW for their records.

Someone's pet maybe?
I say that is what it is.Here in TN it is illegal to have a pet deer unless licensed to do so.I was talking to a game warden on a tn hunting forum im on and he said that if i see a deer with a collar on it,to shoot it and see if there is any information on the collar so he can prosecute them. And i said "will do"..lol

There are quite a few states besides MI that use radio/ ID collars to track the lives/patterns of deer....MI uses them quite a bit...I have seen deer with ear tags while hunting but never a collar....

MDNR does studies, and has in the past used radio collars, that has to be what it is. Let us know if you get a closer look...I too live in southern Michigan.

I've seen a radio collared one near Black River Falls, WI years ago.....and I've also seen collared wolves. Would like to be able to shoot them both....not just the brown one.

RE: Deer with a collar?

i doubt that mich. dnr is doing anything with deer management, well except maybe for cwd, i guess it could be a fallow deer(deer that has been in captivity but has escaped). I would contact your closet dnr office or county warden and tell them where u saw it and exactly what u saw
