RE: Will keeping a muzzleloader loaded cause any problems?

No not retricted ...I bought the gun used from a friend a couple of years ago ..he had two just alike ..he had zeroed it in using 46 grains ofIMR 4227 smokeless powder ...I shot it and at 175 yards it was pretty much dead on so I was sold on it ...as I have said I have not hunted with a M/L much so this is all a little new for me ...the guy I got the gun from was a veteran M/L hunter and I just assumed he knew these guns pretty well.

Sorry to be pain but Im confused when you shot it at 175 yds were you using 4227 or BP?

Rory, smokeless powder is measured by weight, not volume like BP and substitutes. I only use 40 gr of IMR 4759. 2000fps with a 250gr SW and that is a reduced load , i can easily get 2400fps & 2200fps w/ a 300 gr. and still less recoil than a conventional muzzleloader. The Savage is awsome!

Shouldn't hurt it at all. I've been elk hunting for a week and had no problem when on the last day I finally got a shot and the elk. But, don't do like my partner did. He kept his charge in for a year. Yup, missed his first shot this year and it sounded flat when it went off.Go figure. But he ended up with a very large 5 X 5 blacktail that same day. We hunt in Eastern Washington state.

i use an old cap fire muzzleloader and use straight powder. it doesnt hurt it but you have to keep it dry and dont leave it sit in a moist, cold place for a long period of time

What are the regulations on transporting a loaded muzzleloader? This must be regulated?

Muzzleloaders are considered unloaded when the cap or primer is removed. Thats the law in NY at least.
