It's spam. Putting a link like that in your signature is called "google bombing." It increases the chances of getting a high return when someone searches using google. It works even better if you can get a bunch of people to do it. For example, the "psychic" Sylvia Browne has a website that she uses to attract more gullible people to her "ministries." A group of skeptics were outraged by her exploitation of greiving people and launched a website called StopSylviaBrowne.com They listed every wrong answer she has provided to people who wanted to contact their dead loved ones (and the large fees she charged them). In order to get more traffic to their website, they google bombed it. They got like minded friends to put links to the SSBwebsite in their forum signatures. Pretty soon, StopSylviaBrowne.com would show up on the first page of a google search for "Sylvia Browne." commishnyse is trying to sell backpacks and wants you to help him/her get more web traffic.
