kids can't actually hunt in Nebraska until they are 12 or 13... (stupid...), which makes it VERY difficult to get them involved and keep them involved at an early age...
I am sure there will be some squirrel hunting with an airgun in my son's near future, however!!!

I can side with a childs passion and desire for the sport at a young age. I agree with some of you saying that it has a lot to do with the attitude and desire of your child. If he doesnt grow an interest until 9 or older so be it. But if your child shows an interest in hunting a a younger age take him along to do some scouting or checking trail cameras and setting/checking stands. Show them what is involved besides just the hunting aspect of being a hunter. See how much they enjoy that and break them in to more and more. Take them out for some warmer day hunts and break them into some cold days. As interest grows so should their involvement. Get them involved in shooting and just practicing. I guess you can never start them soon enough even if it is watching videos or hunting shows at home. As long as they can walk and get through the woods why not take them along.I guess it just caries child to child
