I dont think you could tell the difference between a dead deer shot w/ a 270 or an 06.

Id look into a stevens 200 or a marlin XL7 though.

Both are very capable and very good rounds for deer. I just like the -06 better because of more choices in loads/weights.....plus I own two.

Didn't vote! Neither of the two are on my favorites list! Just a personal preference, they are both very good choices, just not my choices!

I have a 30-06. Great gun. Plus the name sounds cool.

I like my old .270 Rem. 700. Shot in the same place I doubt you could tell the difference in the two calibers.

The first rifle I ever owned was a J.C.Higgins (Husqvarna Action) .30-06in 1951..I shot it huntingfor many years, even in the US Army with the M1 Garand. In the 1970's I bought a Rem .270 and hunted with it until the 90's and bought a Ruger M77 6.5mmSwede and have hunted with it until now.......

What I liked about the .30-06 over the .270 was the selection of ammo. I could be more accurate with the .270 than withthe .30-06 and that's why I made the switch. In the 90's a friend let me fire a few rounds at the range with his Ruger 6.5mmSwede and it sold me on it. Itook itto Canada and shot my moose with it.....

I own both and it all depends what you want to use them for. I personally think a .270 shoots a little flatter and longer distances but other than that thats really it. A .270 is just a necked down 30.06 round not much differnce it size. .270 are alot more versatile because if you hand load you can load down to 115 or 120 grainsand shoot varmints with it.

Mohunter- you can buy 125gr .30-06 factory loads and reload 110 grain for the .30-06(for varmit)so thats really not an advantage for the 270. Remington also sells the 55gr accelerator for the .30-06 and not the .270.

If you only own one rifle, the .30-06 is the way to go. Its what I hunted with my first 15 years of hunting. Now that I have a .300WSM, the 270 is more appealing because it fills the gap between my .243 and .300WSM.

Either one, bullet range for 270 is 100gr to 165gr, 30-06gr is 125 to 220gr. But, I'd stay away from that Mossburg...
