Default Wanna Hunt my Private Land for FREE!!!

NOT!!! What the heck is with some people? I own and maintain 120 acres. My land is completely surrounded by state forest lands and I can not believe the attitude of some people. I plant food plots, maintain and cut trails, cut fields, plant trees and other things to benefit wildlife habitat and of course to improve my hunting area. I can't understand how some people can think that it is all done for free. I have asked people for help, needed work done that required heavy equiptment, etc and never had an offer for assistance ONE time. Sure, they'll do the work for a fee, then they turn around and expect me to allow them to hunt for free!!! I spend several thousand dollars each year on seed, fertilizer and just lots of hard work and they expect me to allow them to hunt for nothing!! As you can tell, I'm a little pi$$ed!!.
It's just as bad when all the "out-of-towners" show up and think every piece of land up here is public hunting land where they can hunt, throw out there trash, cut trees down, drive there ATV's, and generally just disrespect everything around.
I even allowed a kid and his dad to use one of my stands for his first hunt. ( I love to help out kids and get them involved in hunting)I told him exactly what time the deer would come out and where they would come out from. I could watch them from one of my other stands. I saw the deer come out....he shot and wounded it. They looked about 5 minutes and said, oh well, guess it isn't hurt bad and then proceeded to say they had to leave so they could get home in time. The next day I climbed up in the stand I had let them use...there were food and candy wrappers laying all over the floor. Oh, I guess I should say the reason I climbed up the stand....there was trash on the ground below the stand. I was furious!! I really didn't know these people well and was just wanting to help the kid out. Well, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!
Okay, Guess I'll quit ranting before I get really carried away.

Its ashame people treat others like that. My father raised me to leave things as I found it. On an old property that we used to hunt (and still have permission to at times) there was a gate at the top of the hill that we would go thru, he always told me, if you come here and its shut and locked, go thru and shut it and lock it, if its open, leave it open, always leave things the way you found them. that has set with me to this day. And granted, I hunt on our land and still do the same thing. I dont know why people cant get common sense thru their head. Sorry that happened to you and others feel they can hunt there for free and not help out.

Well if I was closer to you id come out and help ya with anything you need. Fencing, harvesting crops, cutting wood, clearing lanes, roads, pulling stumps, planting trees, etc. I just love doing that kind of stuff. Of course all id ask for is the opportunity to hunt the land.

The place i hunt is 105 acres all to myself and I have asked the land owner numberous times to let me help him with some work around his house and he says that he will always keep me in mind. The land he lets me hunt on,isn't a farm or nothing, just a field or 2 and all woods,so no work to be done there, but i have told him i'd mow his grass, rake leaves,or anyother work he needed done, and he always says he'll remember me.I just wish he'd let me help him out on something,I kinda feel guilty for hunting such a great piece of property for free.

I sure feel for ya i hunt about 100 acres of "family" owned land split between my dad and uncle and its a real pain sometimes. My dad and i are the only ones who do any work on the land (bush hawg, prune, plant, build stands ect.) but since we share the land with my uncles family, they feel its fine to just hunt the land. trash up the stands, and kill small bucks, and ontop of that invite there buddies to come do the same. Bad thing about it I can't do a thing about it. With the problem getting worse each year ive been looking for new land or a club tojoin in SC, if anyone has info please let me know.

WW good luck this season

that right there is what will allow you to hunt there for a long time and get opportunities to hunt other properties. The williness to help out with whatever is a great gesture that most do not practice. Also, dont forget to offer some venison to the land owner if you harvest a deer. He may not hunt, but thats doesnt mean he doesnt like a good backstrap or something.

Wow! I've rarely run into anybody like that, usually trespassers. I've always hunted with permission(over 30 yrs.) and have asked numerous times if they want help with anything. The answer is usually no. So I do what I can instead....leave the property as I found it including dragging limbs from the field lanes, out of crops, etc. I also give venison to the landowners, this season one wants a whole deer so I am obliging him.

One question.........if a hunter knocks on your door and asks permission are you just as angry with him as you were here?

that sux! you got any land in CA...i will put up fences, maintain land, plant plots hand stands scout...help pay for food plots..etc.etc....sometimes people want things handed to them on a silver platter i guess....i would KILL for the chance to hunt private land and would be willing to do LOTS of work for the landowner to hunt on it...

granite i do well on public land..something about not worrying about another guy walking by you sounds better

Cougar Mag,

Nope, not at all. Had a couple of guys and a woman drive up and ask....didn't have a problem letting them hunt at all. Even told them where to go sit and they could park by my house. Never met them before either.
As for tresspassers.....got lots of those too, had 'em walk nearly right up to the house as if they own the place. Personally I think the laws need to be strickter in that aspect. A measly few dollar fine is all that happens for the first offense and guys I have heard just laugh about it.
