Wow.. Took longer than I thought it would thats for sure. 5 minutes is to long to locate a snake like that. I hope you let it slither away in one pc. They really are pretty cool but of course that is coming from a guy who doesn't have to deal with them while hunting.

Took about 5 sec....and Im colorblind (not totally, but red/green)....but had enough close encounters to pick out a pattern amongst a swath of nothing....
My previous job, before being laid off, I was in the woods 40hrs a week locating creeks and wetlands....saw my share of snakes of various sorts. Stepped ON a copperhead, had one between my feet that I didnt step on, but was within 2" of it on either side while it was laying long ways in the direction I was going, between my feet...and boss man stepped over the largest copperhead Ive ever seen......around 42-44" and about as big around as a cup of pudding or jello on the big end.....................NONE even when provoked after the sightings, ever offered to bite or be aggressive.
I did however come within 3 feet of stepping on a rattler that was more that piszed off and more than willing to strike when even remotely provoked it (yes, pouring gas on the fire).

I hate a snake. Used to catch them as a kid and now I can not stand them. My fishing hole is a snake hangout!!! I don't mess with them and they usually don't mess with me.
