Thermacell

Thermacell!!! Do they really work as well as the commercials say they do??? Are they worth the money??

I have one, and have used it a couple of times. I wouldn't leave home this time of year in SE GAwithout it. Definately worth the $$.

totally worth the money..i use mine all the time..if i didnt the skeeters would either carry me off or suck all my blood lol..it takes a minute after u turn it on for it to really kick in..but after it sits there for a good 5 to 10 min..it puts out about a 15 foot barrier

thermacell's are definitely worth the money! works very very well in a calm wind... but not as well when windy cuz the scent gets blown around.

I agree. They work great. Well worth the money.

I was using mine today in my ladder stand with a large Lake about 75 yards behind me....when the butane ran out and theThermaCell quit workingthe mosquito's just about carried me off....so "Yes" they work very well and you won't be swatting at bugs all evening and giving your position away to the Deer! Great info.I am new to the sport and was wondering if this devices work. Not a bad price. Just good to know if they are functional or just a novelty. My son and I will hunt North Louisiana and after the hurricanes the woods are packed with mosquites. Thanks for the input!!!!

One of the items to never forget early in the year, they do work as advertised.

i'm spoiled with my Thermacell. i won't hunt the swamps of Florida without one. i even keep 2 just in case one breaks on me.

RE: Thermacell

I hunt the river bottoms in MS. I would not sell mine for $100. As long as the wind is not to high, it works perfect. You get a little wind and it does not keep the "fumes" around you and does no good. However, most of the time if you have a little wind, mosquitoes are not as bad.

Well after all the comments from you guys I went and got me one. Let me tell you this thing works great. I went to the bottoms Sat afternoon and was swarmed before I even got to the stand. After about 5-10 minutes all the mosquitoes were gone. Don't go to the woods without one.:D

My thermacell is a POS. The flies and skeeters land right on the damn thing. The only thing that stupid deal repelled was the deer cuz they can smell it. I called them and the lady was real nice. She agreed that the deer could smell the regular pads but that they had come out with earth scent pads to correct it. I gave mine away. Worse money I've ever spent. Might as well have put on bug spray.

Used mine several times this season. Works great and the deer didn't seem to mind it. I think as long as they don't think the scent relates to danger, they're not bothered by it. Just my experience.

so well worth it!! no kidding...my hunting area was flooded a couple weeks b4 the season started so they swarmed us when we setup our stands and we all bought some and they work amazingly

One of the best things to come along in a long time. I won't hunt turkeys in the spring or early season archery without one. If the mosquitoes or black flies aren't bad, I might not bother turning it on, but if they are an issue, nothing works better.

Your the first person I have ever heard say they didn't work, so I'm assumingeither you are doing something wrong or there could be a defect inthe one you bought. To put it simply, they work. I have had deer smell them before. They were nervous and eventually left the scene, but they were not terrified and bolt out of there like they do when they smell human scent. Buy another one and try it again. I promise you they work. BTW, has anyone tried the earth scent pads yet?

I see you have jokes today. That's good. Too bad it wasn't funny. If I didn't know how to turn it on jacka$$ then how would the deer smell it and run off. My buddy bought one too and had the same experience with it so I guess we are both retards. And why in the hell would I buy another one if the $35 I spent on this one was a waste. So let's see, I'll just go buy another one so it won't work either. Sounds like a good idea. Idiots.

Your an idiot for spending $35 on one in the first place when you can get them for under $20. I was justtrying to help, and you want to call me an idiot. How is it you and your bud are the only ones it hasn't worked for. Maybe you are the idiot. I guess not all Thermacells are idiot proof. Have a crappy day, idiot!

Correct, and that is why I have won the battle. Should I send you a Thermacell that really works. I can get them for $14.99. I've heard somewhere that some genius paid $35 for one. I don't care if you use Thermacell or not, justdon't come on a forum with your crappy attitude calling someone an idiot who is trying to give advice. Get your ass carried off by mosquitoes, I could care less. BTW, have you ever though that maybe the deer smelled you, and not the Thermacell?

RE: Thermacell

Not to interrupt the slug fest, but I bought one this year and used it for the first time. On the one hand, it did work and I would definitely use it if I hunted the southern swamps. However, here in western PA it has been pleasantly cool: even when the mosquitoes are out, it has been cool enough to wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt. With my hat and face net the only exposed skin is part of my face and my hands.

With that little space to protect, I have gone back to bug repellent. First, because the Thermocell does smell at least as much as the repellent and, second, because the pad that is advertised to last four hours started to give out after about 2 1/2: I spent the last hour with no protection.

If you don't have to deal with maximum exposure due to very warm temperatures, the bug repellent is cheaper, simpler, and can be applied as needed.

Well now that you asked it did occur to me that maybe they smelled me but beings that the first three deer I saw that night came in down wind of me and it wasn't until I turned the deal on (yes I do actually know how to fire it up! a college education is well worth the money!) that the deer started to get nervous and leave. Like the other guy stated earlier the deer didn't blow out of there but they knew something was up and left. My bad attitude huh. I guess I was insulted first. The guy asked how they work and mine and my buddy's don't work worth a damn so there you have it.

I think he bought one of the new scent dispenserThermacells instead of the insect repellent ones. :D

I've heard one other person say that theirs didn't work effectively. About 10 of BitterBirddogs posts are bashing thermacells so he seems to have something against them. I don't need someone to tell me whether they work or not, I've witnessed it first hand and they work.

For one thing, I was the other guy that stated the deer were alarmed. Secondly, you insulted me first, so I naturally retaliated. I was just making a suggestion and you blew it out of proportion because you were pissed off at the guy who did insult you. Third, I don't care if you like them or not. All I know is, they flat out work, yours didn't, but mine did and always has. Also, what did you expect when you insulted someone. I'm not trying to be a"computer tough guy", I'm just being human by retaliating. I'm finished with this and I hope there are no hard feelings. There are none here.I'm still interested in the earth scent wafer repellant, if there is such a thing.

There is a sporting goods store close to where I live that sells them for that price. Everywhere else they are $19.99 to$24.99. I think the store is going through some problems and they are lowering prices to get customersinterested. There's lots of competition in the market and with the way our economy is, businesses will try anything to get customers interested. It worked on me.I already had one, but bought two more. At that price, I couldn't pass it up.

Absolutely worth it! Awesome product and works awesome on keeping bugs away. Have had deer walk right underneath me while in use as well, so i believe it is totally scent free too.

At BJ's wholesale club, I think last year sometime, I picked up 3 or 4 thermacells for about $13 each, and they were packaged differently. each came with 2 cartridges and 6 mats. At that price, it was like getting the unit free with 2 refills.

RE: Thermacell

The Thermocell has been one of the cheapest and best purchases I have made for bow hunting. As far as deer spooking b/c of them, I havent seen this reaction from my deers on my lease, in fact during one hunting trip (prior to me buying the holster for it) I accidently knocked mine off my stand base and it was laying on the ground at the base of my tree still working away. I had a doe and fawn come in on me at 15 yds and they never even raised their nose.

I am sold on them and personally think it is a great product for a great price, I dont leave home without it. During early season bow hunts I actually turn mine on while I am at the truck getting ready and it is going strong by the time I get in my tree.

Yep... until the first frost they are the most important piece of equipment I take to the woods! Wife and kids bought me one for my birthday, it's pretty awesome.
