RE: Primos Can Call?
use it during the rut..in combo with a grunt..piss of that mature buck in your area and he will come runnin to see who is tending that hot doe in the area

RE: Primos Can Call?
I have used the "can" a few times last couple of years . I have had one spike come in on a line looking, and several times I have had does come straight to the area, obviously looking for the maker of the bleat. No big boys as of yet have responded.

RE: Primos Can Call?
I was looking at one at WAL-MARTtoday, didn't know if i wanted to spend the money on one, i guess i still have to get one .I know someone said they use it during the rut do you think it will work during the pre-rut ?
|
RE: Primos Can Call?
yes it can work during the pre rut and post rut..during pre rut the bucks are makin territorial scrapes and rubs..priming the area for hot does etc..and during the post rut..they are searching for any hot does that might be left or have come into another cycle..but dont over do it
|
RE: Primos Can Call?
yes..you can use it during the pre rut..may not be as affective as during the rut but it does work..during the pre rut the bucks are gettin ready for the rut obviously..territorial scrapes and rubs..you can trick that buck to thinkin there is a doe in heat around..dont use it too much though

RE: Primos Can Call?
I used it late October through Thanksgiving or so. I've seen some amazing reactions to it when used alone, and also with a grunt tube. I've had the same one for several years now...works great.

RE: Primos Can Call?
I love using it during pre rut and during the rut. During the pre rut it brings lots of does into the field if u use it with a doe decoy. and during the rut last year i had my 9 pointer come in thinking it was a hot doe.

RE: Primos Can Call?
Don't want to Hijack the post, but for those of you who use it, how many times do you flip in an hour and at what frequency. Just want to see if I am overusing/underusing it.
|
RE: Primos Can Call?
I take mine with me all the time. I've had does and fawns come in alot. I got my 1st rifle buck using it. I just sat down and flipped it and he ran right in. Been a user ever since. I like to flip it 2 times in a row and then once about every 15 min. Followed up with a grunt or 2. Don't know if thats the way to do it but it keeps me entertained;)

RE: Primos Can Call?
I usually flip it over 3 times and follow that by a couple of grunts every 1/2 hour or if I happen to see a buck not comming into me. Never call if a buck is heading in your direction. I've ruined one in 5 years because it fell from my treestand. Something must be messed up with the seal because it slides, but doesn't make any sound.

RE: Primos Can Call?
worked ok, kinda quiet though. Dont get it wet!!!!

RE: Primos Can Call?
i agree with idadeerhunter on this one..i do bout the same thing he said..but like other people said..if you get it wet..its good as gone..i actually carry an extra in my huntin pack.

RE: Primos Can Call?
I've heard does in heat doing that sound every other second while being pushed by a buck....for like 3 minutes straight. Before I saw the doe doing it, I thought for sure another hunter was turning his can over. I've also heard them doing it once every 10 minutes.
After those experiences, I don't fear turning the can over a lot, or a little. I've had results from both. |
RE: Primos Can Call?
Buy it, use it, love it, bleat calls work.......deer vocalizations are common place andwill rarely spook deer
|
RE: Primos Can Call?
I had a 2 1/2 year old in the field about 80 yards away last year, i'd seen some young bucks chasing and grunting after a doe on the other side of my stand, so i hit the can, the deer looked up and ignored it, i tried it again and never got any more responses from him. It sounds real enough, but it's definitely not fool proof. Can't say that i've had any outstanding success with it. But I know of those who do, so it'd be worth having along just in case.

RE: Primos Can Call?
I called in a mountain lion with it once... Don't think I ever had a deer respond to it, but I don't call all that much either, except during the rut.
Pre rut I hardly use it, usually I'll use it when I'm running out of steam and about to get down out of the tree. I'll flip it, and give it another 20 minutes or so to see if anything comes in. During the rut I'll flip it about once or twice everyhour or so. Post rut I usually just stay quiet. |
RE: Primos Can Call?
Used the original Can call when it first came out for two full seasons, never attracted a single deer, went back to grunts. Deer grunt all the time, and The Can sounds just like what it is, a cow moo toy I had when I was a kid.
