questions on pulling elk tags.

I gotta few questions about elk tags.

How hard are they to get?

How much?

And for the whole trip on average how much would it cost?

RE: questions on pulling elk tags.

Depends on where your going. Alot of states you have to put in for a bonus point first, usually a year in advance and then try to make the draw for the next year using that bonus point. Going through an outfitter usually helps your chances as well, at least your first time until you get your name in the system. Most states, Colorado, Wyoming and so forth will usually run you between 500 to 600 for bull elk tag (out of State), cow tags are a lot cheaper. Some zones in certain states you can draw that year, and some places have landowner tags that you can obtain that year(they usually cost more). Just depends on when, where, and how. Most states have the prices posted on there websites along with draw requirements.

In CO you can get a cow license for about $250. If you have elk hunting friends here the rest of the costs would be the same as it is for locals. All the usual expenses including, but not limited to, transportation, food, ammo, any accommodations you don't bring.

If you drove, bought a cow license, had a place to go when you got here, brought everything else you need, got an elk and drove home.............$1200 minimum depending on how long you stayed and how determined you are to get an elk. If you are just wanting to kill one...its 8 am in Colorado right now, I can have you on one in an hour. If you want a bull add $600, more time and a couple years to draw the license.

You can get Colorado bull tags over the counter for second and third rifle seasons. I think they are $525 (non res) this year plus a 10 dollar habitat stamp.
