RE: deer movement? where di dthe bucks go?
Same thing year after year for me. It has to do with all these new intrusions to their unobstructed habitat. All summer these deer have been living human free. now squirrel, dove, goose season, plus bow hunters doing their preseason scouting routine. All these scents sounds and activity push the deer (big bucks especially) to their favorite little hidey hole. After some time when all the activity kind of slows down (second week of October for me) they will feel a little more comfortable and start to move more.

Corns abought ready, acorns are falling to the ground , etc.
Alot of the late summer movement is to fill there belly .
I,d say abought this time of year they hold up in the corn fields .
Farmers are now cutting the corn so they will be exposed soon .

Most likely those mature bucks have moved from there summering are (your property) to their fall/winter areas (other property's). This happens this time of year as the bachelor groups are breaking up now.

I have to agree with the corn fields, here alot of our fields have center pivot irrigation systems and the deer really like to use the tire tracks as a trail, and its always nice and cool under the canopy, ground is damp, and nothing sneaks up on them. I also have a friend who is a crop duster, he says he sees more mature bucks out in sunflower fields than anywhere else.

We have over 700 acres in WNY. Acorns are early this year, the apples (if you have them) are a really strong draw right now. Corn is still standing, pumpkins are in the fields still and with all the rain we had, the clover and alfalfa is still pretty green. If your stands are ready, then I would suggest staying off the property. I use to use trail cams, but I felt that they put me in the hunting areas to much with little return. How many times have you seen deer on camera and then never see that deer again. I found it to frustrating. We usually harvested deer that were on other peoples cameras.(That I am sure is a different thread al together)
Good luck and be patient.
