Deer Feeder

Looking at building a homeade deer feeder, out of a 45 gallon plastic drum. Wondering if anyone has any plans or a easy way to do this/??

I'd cut a hole in the bottom and mount a timed feeder on the bottom, then hang it from a tree limb or on a chain between two trees using a small hand winch so you can lower it for filling. The biggest problem I have had with barrels like that is that the corn, or other feed, has moisture in it and it will mold making a mess (I'm in an area that is real humid). I think if you take one of those closet moisture traps and hang on top of the corn inside the feeder it would be a lot of help in that regard.

You might also look into getting onr of the funnels they make to put in the bottom of the feeder so your not wasting corn.

Heres another that I use. I like the fact that I can winch it down to fill it, no more ladders!!!!!

if you dont want to mount a auto feeder on it, you can cut out a small rectangle, say 4 inches by 6 inches,at the bottom of the barrel and cover that with rabbit wire. then take self starting screws and large washers to secure the wire to the barrel. deer will have to paw the wire to get the corn to drop. it works really well i have used this step up for years. but i did change to auto feeders this year because of the price of corn. good luck
