RE: Rompola buck
I hear another can of worms openning up! I know that it was not proven either way, but if it were my record book buck and reputation on the line, I' d fight to the end to prove my case. I guess that tells you what I believe about the Rompola buck!

RE: Rompola buck
I believe his name was Mitch Rompola and he claimed to have taken a new
world record whitetail. There was a picture of him with the buck and many
people claimed the deer in the picture looked a little goofy and was not real.
In the past people have " manufactured" large antlers and tried to pass them
off as real, many thought that this was the case here. From what I can remember
Rompola avoided people wanting to inspect, x-ray, or even see his trophy.
Someone told me that Milo Hanson (current record holder) and Rompola had
some kind of legal agreement that Rompola would not recognize his buck as any
kind of record holder. If I have this wrong, I apologize to all involved, but that is
what I remember.

RE: Rompola buck
Not this again! and again, and again, and again..............[:' (]
Just some facts:
Mitch is obsessed with deer and deer hunting.
Mitch spends 300+ days a year, in the woods, pursuing white-tails.
Mitch logs all of his findings of 300+ days, for the past 20-30 years, and studies them to pattern every deer in his area.
Mitch' s accomplishments, other than the Rompola buck, include a state record bow kill and other amazing MI deer.
Mitch only works at odd jobs, and his life revolves around deer.
Mitch is a jerk to many, with a general mistrust for the media and general public.
There are more facts that point to him being able to harvest a magnificant animal, and his subsequent run-ins with reporters and the media, than facts that go against it.
Also, I' ve heard from pretty reliable sources he sold the buck to a collecter for 1 million+, along with an agreement it would never be listed.
I hope he did.
An aquaintance of mine called up Richard P. Smith, an outdoor writer from my neck of the woods, that had a book from back in the late 80' s that chronicled many of MI' s biggest buck stories. There were many successful hunters in the book, and some with lots of trophy experience. The aquaintance of mine, who to this day has remained a friend of Mitch' s, asked Mr. Smith who the best hunter was in the book. Mr. Smith replied, " You' ll learn more from Mitch Rompola, than all those other the hunters combined" . The aquaintance of mine became friends with Mitch, learned from Mitch, and in the last 5 years has arrowed 5 bucks between 155 and 170.
Mr Smith' s statement was pretty accurate. But then again, if you spent 300+ days in the woods scouting each year, what could you accomplish?
