Did you get the first deer you shot at?
The rookie post got me thinking....
Did you get the first deer that you attempted a shot at?
I did, however, I did miss the first shot at the deer, but dropped it with the second.

Nope, clean miss. The next day I got a shot and connected. I fired 21 rounds at that deer. Unbelievable! This was with a bolt action rifle. Really, no kidding, 21 rounds. I never carry more than 8 rounds total now.

I was very young, maybe 3rd grade? And I went with my dad and some family friends to Sout-West Tx on a doe hunt. I had been to the range many times and shot my gun. The big day arrived and the shot was short of her by at least 10yrds.lol I haven't missed one since with a gun.
First shot I took at a deer with a bow was 3 yrs ago. I had a doe at about 20 yrds and I shot under her by about a foot. I was more nervous on her than I was on that first deer when I was a kid. I haven't taken another shot at a deer with my bow since, even though it is the only weapon I've hunted with since then.

Well, yes AND no. I shot him, he was a huge 10 point. I hit him good. I watched him run across the road and fall over by a gaswell. I watched a man sitting on the gaswell turn around and shoot it. He said that he put it down, I told him I watched it fall before he even shot, well he pulled his gun on me so I left. I shot a small 8 point that scored around 99" about 30 minutes later. One shot. My dad was about 100 yards from me, I couldn't see its vitals so I got a head shot. He dropped INSTANTLY.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet
P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^)

Well, if you count the teensy thing I shot as a deer then yes. I sht a yearling with my bow, hit low ( from a treestand so the pass thru hit a lung anyhow ) But it was so small I hoisted it by its legs and carried it ( carried not dragged ) to where I guted it. I am a bit embarrassed by that one but figured you asked. Only taken 3 deer in a cumulative 7 years of hunting, 2 on antlerless tags. But, I guess I am doing good cause I have yet to fire on one and not take it home.
Just my uneducated opinion!
