Brenneke Sabots
I was looking for Winchester sabots this weekend, and saw a decent deal on Brenneke 2.75" sabot slugs. These are 1 oz., 63 caliber, rated at 1550 fps. They are not the typical Brenneke slug that flies with an attached wad, they are true sabots.
I'm wondering if anyone has shot them or used them on deer.If they are accurate in my gun, they should do very well on deer. They are 100 fps faster than my 3" Winchesters, and also.13" larger indiameter. The standard Winchester sabots have increased in price by more than half, not that it adds up to a major expense, and the Brennekes are pretty reasonable in comparison. |
RE: Brenneke Sabots
I used the gold magnums before that weigh 600 grns. I wasn't impressed to tell you the truth. Just put a big hole right through the deer. Didn't to a lot of internal damage and the deer ran 90 yards before dropping. I shot it at 20 yards through the lungs. I am sure a shoulder hit would have ruined it's day though.
I have noticed the more expensive controlled expansion bullet actually perform better on game and o more internal damage than a soft lead slug. Either will kill deer though. Paul |
