Ridge Runner is right, both my dad and I just picked up two optima elites with .50 cal/.270 combo and took them out this past weekend. My dad needed to make sure his gun was closed hard in order for the hammer to cock which could be the same problem you are having. We also shot the remington core-lokt ammo without any problems and with these being out first rifles were not experts either. If this doesn't come out to be the case I would call up CVA and see what they can do, If its a weak spring it shouldn't be happening on a new gun. So have you taken the muzzle loader out yet? if so did it shoot ok?

of all the rounds i fired i have never had a centerfire misfire. only had that happen with some cheap .22 LR ammo that was old. take your gun to a gunsmith and have it checked out. i doubt high end ammo would ever have that many duds in one box. i shoot cheap federal soft points and i have never had a centerfire misfire!

I shot the muzzle loader first with no problems at all, I shot it 12 times, 2 50gr. 777 pellets and 295gr. powerbelt. It was very easy to clean with the 777!!! I used 3 presoaked cleaning patches and 3 dry ones and done! Huge difference from regular pyrodex.

I would try some different ammo regardless of if it changes the impact. I wouldn't even worry about where it hits. Just get a box of twenty of a different manufacturer like Winchester or something and fire them off to check for function. If it does it again take it back and have it looked at.
I'm not a huge remington ammo fan, but Core Lokt is not cheap ammo and it should function just fine. I guess there is that possibility that you got a bad box or something.
Like someone else has said, I have never had centerfire rifle fail to fire. I have had it happen with a 9mm from time to time though, but not to the extent you are talking about.

the optima is a single shot, isn't it? it sounds like you may have a headspace problem. try a different ammo first. have someone shoot the ammo you are having problems with in their gun.
