New Scope

I just wanted to get everyone's opnion on this. I am getting ready to purchase a new scope for my 30-06 Weatherby. I currently have a BSA 4x40. I have had it for years and it's been doing ok, but this last year, while I was sighting in my rifle, I found that every time that I shot and set the cross-hairs, then my shot would go off some other place.

I really want something that will allow for varying distances of at least 100-300 yards, variableand reasonably priced. I am hoping to find something for under $275 to keep the Misses happy.

Any suggestions??

What sort of power are you looking for and do you want an adjustable objective? Lots of decent 3-9 variable hunting scopes on the market in that price range. If you are talking something more like a varmint rig your choices really narrow a bit.

I have been hearing really great things about the Mueller 3-10x44 Tac II Riflescope . I own a mueller 4-16x50 with mildots and am very pleased with it. And from what I hear the Tac II has even better optics. No adjustable parallax though.

For $150 and under, Bushnell Banner or Trophy, Nikon Prostaff. For under $300, Nikon Buckmaster, Leupold VXII, Burris Fullfield, Bushnell Elite 3200. I'm sure there are others but these are the more popular one's that I have seen. Check out Ebay, Midway, Cabelas, SWFA and Natchez you can find some pretty decent deals. The Burris and Leupolds will have some package deals available that come with a range finder, binoculars or spotting scope.

I have a Burris Fullfield II 3-9X40 Ballistic Plex on my Vanguard 7mm.Rem.Mag. I love it. It's a great scope. I have practiced long target acquisitions with no eye strain. I got from SWFA for around $200.00 + shipping. I have read some not so great reviews on the Fullfield II package scopes. So I didn't go that route.

Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X40, Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40, Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 and the Burris Fullfield II are all good scopes for less than $275.

I'd get a Nikon, Nikon Monarch3-12

Leupold VX-III 4.5-14,

anything in the 3-9 or 4-12 range I'd look for putting on top that '06

3-9 is the classic, but 4-12 I think gives you much more, and heck 3-12 best of both worlds?

I have had great success w/ the Leuplold Rifleman @ $199.99. You also cannot go wrtong w/ the Nikon Prostaff scopes for the $$ either.

Before you buy, go to www.theopticzone.com or www.swfa.com and look at prices. The optic zone is usually the cheapest, but once in a while swfa will surprise me. For around 275.00 , you can get some great glass. You can get stuff in the 4 - 12 X 50 Buckmasters or a 4.5 - 14 X 40 Buckmasters, and the both are great. I own about 9 Nikon scopes , and a few other brands, and I have found the Nikon to be one of the best values in scopes. I own some Monarchs too, but they are too much above your price goal. Both of the listed sites are great places to do business with. They are the only places I buy my scopes now. I bought the4 - 12 for 285.00 , I believe , and I believe I got my last 4.5 - 14 for about 260.00.

I just went and looked and the 4 - 12 is 309.00 BUT the 4.5 - 14 is only 269.00 in matte / nikoplex and 275.00 in matte / BDC.

Hope this helps.

Good luck and God bless

MET
