Mine is an old Ruger .257 Roberts shooting 117 gr. Prohunters.
It also has taken many mulies. Ya just need to get a little closer, which makes hunting all the more fun.

Wow, a resurected thread. That's OK, it's an oldie but a goodie. Don't remember if I answered it back in 2008 or not.

My favorites are my Rem. 742 in 30-06 with a 3-9X 40mm Bushnell Trophy Scope shooting 180 gr Fusions and a Marlin 336 in 30-30 with an old Redfield Tracker 3-9X 40mm scope shooting 160 gr Hornady Leverevolutions.

When I hunting someplace where I might have a shot out over 200 yards I usually use a Sako L691 in 300 WBY with a 4.5-14X 40mm Leupold Vari-X III scope shooting 180 gr WB (Norma) SPs.

I may have answered already but right now I am shooting a Thompson Encore ProHunter 50 cal ML with a Nikon Monarch on top. Shooting a 250gr Barnes TMZ with a Harvester Yellow crushed ribbed sabot on top of a 110gr of Blackhorn 209 powder and Win 209 primers.

I use a .270 caliber rifle, because it versatile weapon for both deer hunting and some bigger game like elk.

You can never go wrong with it, plus the ammo is pretty reasonable and easy to find.

I used to use a Savage .243 before I started using my bows all the time.
