hunting on public land?
I am getting married in Dec and we are going to take a traditional honeymoon for a week and the second week we would like to go hunting in illinois or kansas. Obviously it would be Thousands of dollars for both of us to go on a guided hunt so we wanted to drive out there and hunt on public land BUT I have no idea where to start. How do you get permission to go on the land? How do you find out where public land is? acccess points? who do you talk to? are there any fees with it other then your tags? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I agree, contact the DNR of the state and they can answer all the questions. When I go and hunt on public land, there is only one downfall. If you are hunting on public land it is free game for everyone so you may have someone walk up on you. I know that when I sell a license to an out of state resident it is quite a bit more expensive then a resident tag.

RE: hunting on public land?
Could be good timing for Illinois depending on when you would be going in December, and if you don't have high expectations for a trophy buck. By mid-December, both gun seasons are over and the bowhunters have had 2.5 months to fill their tags. So, even some of the more heavily hunted public lands shouldn't have too many people.

if illinois is ur featured destination then i suggest either jim edgar panther creek in cass county or ray norbut in pike cty- both are great spots with great deer populations
