Still comparing apples to oranges there. Rifles and shotguns generally have significantly different uses. What are your plans for these weapons? If you're elk hunting in Colorado, you want the .30-06. If you're hunting quail, the shotgun is more appropriate. Tell us your plans, and we can give you some real advice...

My answer was simply based on which brand I prefer. I feel that a savage regardless of type of weapon is a better gun than a mossberg. Not that Mossbergs are bad, I just personally feel the savages are better. If I were talking slug guns I would rather have a savage slug gun vrs a mossberg 500. Or an 870 for that matter.
