Opinions on rangefinders?
I'm looking for a rangefinder on a budget and don't know what i need. I like the Nikon archers choice but it only goes to 100 yds and won't help much when I pick up a rifle. I bow hunt more often than rifle hunt, do I need the ID technology, or will the rifle hunter 550 work for me, or should I spend the money on the Bushnell scout 1000 w/arc? Or do I really need the arc or id technology?:(

You don't need the arc technology...It doesn't make that much difference on game animals...
I bought the Nikon 600 a few years ago and it has served me well for bow and gun hunting... |

For the height of most treestands, and the distance of most shots, the new technology is not necessary. I bought a Nikon 440 and I have used it for three years and it has been great. Some folks get a rangefinder that will range 1000 yards, but I'm not sure why... but the 440 yards mine ranges is about all I need. But you can get anything you want, depending on how much or how little $$$ you want to spend. That is the main issue to decide.... and we cannot help you with that. If you say you only have 200.00, then you are not going to get the new technology, even if you did want it. But the 440 can be had for under or right at 200.00.

The nikon riflehunter has the same features as the Archers Choice model, just $20-$30 more and will go to 550 yds. The neoprene case is also available to fit it. BTW I've got a nikon laser 400 (the small rectangular one) I'd sell for $150 shipped. PM me if interested

I paid about $400 when it came out, so I'd like to not give it away. Normally in Cabelas, now they are about $200 not on sale. I'd do $130.

I have the bushnell scout with ARC. I do a lot of varmint hunting also and some long range shots. I love it but it was a little pricey. The built in compensater is nice.

I have had the Bushnell 400 Yards or Metersfor 12+years and works fine for me..
