with the high prices of gas and the distance i travel to feed
i decided to try a feeder. just wondering when most people
want their feeder to dispense. at times you plan to be
hunting or when you arent. any suggestions appreciated

From what I have seen and read, A food plot might be better.

But if you must have a feeder,
I would say have it go off the times that you will be hunting.

They have a lot of information on this subject.

I like watching their shows.

RE: feeder question

You need to have it set to go off about 45 min. to an hour after you get in your stand. During Oct. before the time changes, I usually get in my stand in the morningabout 5:45 and my feeder is set for 6:30or 6:45. In the evening I usually get on my stand at 4:45 to 5:00 and my feeder is set for 5:30 or 5:45. I actually don't hunt my feeders very often. I have them set up mainly to let friends hunt who don't get much time to hunt and to feed the few turkeys I still have on my property. When I do hunt a feeder, it's with bow only and I'm trying to take a doe.

feeders can transfer the disease cwd food plots can't stay away from yuppie seed like biologic, QD management and any thing with the picture of a 20 point buck. go to your local agway and get a clover, alfalfa, timothy mix for 1/2 price.

My opinion is just opposite. I like to set mine to go off around 2:00 in the afternoon. If I have it running twice it goes off about an hour before daylight and about 2 in the afternoon. I don't like it going off when I am there.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the logic in this. Why would you set it before daylight? That means they could come in, eat, and leave before it gets light enough to shoot. You are certainly going to spook moredeer going to your stand.I don't understand why you would set it at 2:00 either, unless you are going to be on thestand before then. To each his own. I'm not knocking you for doing it that way, just wondering why.

RE: feeder question

I don't like the feeder going off while I am there. Spooking deer going in in the morning is always a problem no matter when the feeder runs. Most of the deer I see in the morning are 1 to 2 hours after daylight. Anyhow, to each his own I guess. I have been doing it this way for years and it works for me.
