Sick Buck Picture?
I got the picture below on my Stealth Camera this weekend and the small buck in the picture seems to have some serious discoloration, anyone seen something like this before? Is he sick? Is this something to worry about spreading to the rest of the deer?

Sorry about there...here it is....

RE: Sick Buck Picture?
Im just guessing its a really really lucky old deer. But its possible it could have a skin disease of some sort. Perhaps chicken pocks?

RE: Sick Buck Picture?
I would have to see a better picture of him, but he just looks old. From the picture he looks to have a big pot belly that would tell me he is an older dude with a skin problem.

I appreciate the feedback...I feel it is my obligation to cull the herd of the old geezer and take him out of his misery. Thanks again and I'll keep you all posted once the season opens up.

maybe scabies, or some other disease.
heck it could even be from extreme heat on this deer. |
RE: Sick Buck Picture?
I think I am going to break ranks (as usual) and say that this deer may simply be beginning the transition from the summer coat to the winter coat. While he may be a couple of weeks early, we should start seeing more of this in the coming weeks and months.

Maybe a few battle wounds from many years of rutt?? I shot a 6 pointer a few years back with an overabundance of ticks and his thick winter coat barely covered some of the blotchy spots. |

Not the best quality picture, but it sure looks to me like a deer that is beginning to shed 1 coat for another.
Up here in Wisconsin, I see deer change from Summer red to fall brown all the time. For a time they can appear pretty ugly, but it is nothing to worrry about. |

RE: Sick Buck Picture?
We have exotic lice up here that are causing deer to lose hair and die in the winter.
|
RE: Sick Buck Picture?
Man it look like he's still wearing last years battle wounds. lol
|
RE: Sick Buck Picture?
Back is too straight to be an old deer. I would guess shedding summer coat and old scars, could have been an almost caught by coyotes or something, or some kind of skin disease.

RE: Sick Buck Picture?
no some deer get like this in the summer i had a pic of a huge buck last year that looked like that when we killed it it was fine
|
RE: Sick Buck Picture?
I've arrowed a few in september/october that looked a little like that..so possibly just a winter coat coming in.
|
RE: Sick Buck Picture?
Combination of coat changing and the nasty horse flies chewing on it! There seems to be an overabundance of the mean little suckers this year.

RE: Sick Buck Picture?
Looks like hes starting to lose his summer coat already, I saw a nice buck lastnight thats losing his summer coat already, strange to see that before the end of sept......what kind of winter are we looking at this year, Im scared to find out.
