The State of Mississippi and Southern Dominance
A recent study indicated that throughout the glorious Southland, the percentage of yearlings in the buck harvest declined significantly. As an example,Mississippi dropped from 50% to a nationwide low of 12% yearlings! This is solid proof as to why the South is leading the charge when it comes to quality whitetail management.
Down here in Florida, as wetransition to a leadership rolenow and in the future, we will compete nationally on the basis of quality whitetail herd, with nosignificant highcost. We will strengthen our fundamental managementfoundations and develop new competitive advantages.
The new Florida economy already has our business and political leaders reinventing how we compete and Florida State University's recent introduction of thealready renowned "Whitetail Studies" curriculumis taking off.
The difference about deer hunters in Florida is that weview ourtransition as an opportunity to rekindle Florida’s roots and take back that which you Yankees have so hastily taken. Right now, guys are in their pick-uptrucks driving home from work (smoking a Marlboro Red) in Florida thinking about strategies for global whitetail leadership.
Florida is well-suited for this and more and more folksa re realizing it every day.Besides Florida’s strategic location, we are globally competitive in the areas of marksmanship, innovative hunting techniques, deer hunting infrastructure, above averageclimate, governance and quality of life.
Sure, we may havea few short-term challenges. But all in allthere is not a single cloud in the Florida skies today and the Florida sunshine will continue to light the way towards prosperity.
I hope all of you are well and that your families are enjoying the summer!
