Young does, or old does?
What do You guys think is better to kill? Old does, or Younger does? They say older Does will have more, and healthier fawns, but They also say Younger Does are more likely to have Male fawns? Which do You guys think is better to harvest based on buck management, and herd ratio?

If you are trying to reduce the herd then the biologists tell you to harvest both and alsoto do it early
in the season, before the rut... |
RE: Young does, or old does?
Depends on how my season has gone so far. If I haven't filled a tag and the season is running out, its first come first serve.

RE: Young does, or old does?
I would take either.

RE: Young does, or old does?
I have a saying "The first one to walk out of the year hits the ground, even if I have to put it on the smoker whole."

RE: Young does, or old does?
i'm no biologist so i don't attempt to age them. if they are around 100 pounds (average size for the deep South), the hammer drops.

RE: Young does, or old does?
I've always liked to shoot the older ones, and let the younger ones go. My Dad thinks shooting the younger ones will let the older does have healthier, and more fawns. I guess a mix prolly would be best though.
