RE: Early season deer scents?

Early season I prefer either no scent or a natural cover scent. I also will only use ONE type of cover scent during a hunt. My favorites are fresh earth or pine, the areas I like to hunt have an abundance of both.

When I decide to use a no man-made scent route, I will take grasses, leaves, etc., even fallen acorns and walnuts and place them in with my hunting clothing. Usually two or three days is all it takes and the clothes smell like they look, nature.

Most importantly, begin preparation for the hunt by making sure your body is scent free.

I tend to prefer straight doe pee both as a cover scent and a mild attractant. I have found that it works perfectly when you want to get in close to deer during the early season.

I am not a big scent guy.

But don' t over look doe in heat in October. There are always a small % of does that come into heat 28 days before the peek rut. In my area last year the beggining of Oct. had some great rut action - a good month before the peek.
Bucks grunting, chasing does responding to the rattle bag etc.

If in high pressure woods ,it doesn' t hurt to be the first one that season using such a scent before the mature bucks become educated by all the " Pee-Happy People" :D

Here in Maine I used Cronks Master Lure for many years with good success. I felt I needed something more potent and changed to Golden Estrous which has magnetic attraction. It will pull in does as well as bucks.
