Remington Model 788
I recently aquired a beautiful Remington Model 788 chambered in .243 WIN.with aWeaver scope. This gun has only been shot a few times. I have never deer hunted in my life and at age 36, have decided to give it a try. Is this rifle adequate? Also, would this gun bode well on a pig hunt?
Thanks, Mike! |
RE: Remington Model 788
I would say that many deer have been taken with a .243....a good well placed shot will get the job done. Do alot of shooting and get familiar with your gun. Practice is the most important thing.

I have a 788 in .308 WIN, and it is a great rifle...very accurate. The .243 is just fine for deer.

I would hang on to any Rem. 788 regardless of caliber.
243 is sufficient for deer. My stepfather killed quite a few with his when I was growing up. |
RE: Remington Model 788
It's really not a very good deer rifle or cartridge. Would you be interested in selling it?:D

RE: Remington Model 788
Great gun! I have the model 788 in a 6mm. I love it! While deer hunting in Washington State I shot a 6' Black bear with it. Dropped him in his tracks! My advice to you is try to buy a couple extra magazines for your gun. I lost one, and to replace them they are spendy!
