Shotgun qustion
 

i am useing a remington 870 wingmaster with a28" mod. cyl. barrel will the buckshot spread out faster i dont think it will but my grandad said it will?

You'll have to try different loadings and see..In my Browning B-80, it prefers the Improved over the Modified or Full chokes...It also prefers Winchester Supremes over Federal or Remington...But, your gun might be different...

I use to use a 30" full with Rem 00 buck and it worked well. Like hawkeye said, all guns have their preference on loads and brands. Buy a few boxes of various types/loads and do some testing. Nothing wrong with your modified barrel.

My old remington 11-48 12ga.Shoots buckshot really good out of the 28'' mod. barrel.It did not like buckshot out of the 30" full barrel.Try shooting different size buckshot.Like 01,04,00,000.

I had a friend that shot a deer @ 80 yards with buckshot and 5 out of 18 pellets hit the deer.
However, I wouldn't try it out much past 40 or 50 yards.
So to your question...
Every gun and barrel length handles loads differently, so pattern your gun with different ammo to find the best combo and distance for a clean kill.

MObuckhunter you are the only person I think I have ever heard say that they had an old 11-48. I've had one a long time, havn't shot it in close to 30 years. Worst kicking gun I've ever shot.

You won't ever know unless you get a few boxes of shells and try it out. Get a bunch of targets and try different distances, different brands and different sizes. You will be surprised at how some guns will pattern 00 (or another size) in one brand and not do well with another. I wouldn't hesitate to use your gun, with the right shell.
