Great buck, but a quote from the story disturbs me:
How ethical is it for a 9 year old kid shooting a weapon he has never fired before at a deer?

I personally believe it is unethical for anyone to shoot at any animal with a gun/bow they have never fired before. If it shoots perfectly straight and you make a beautiful kill shot, wonderful, but if it doesn't and you wound a deer to never find it and have it slowly die (from infection or direct injury) or live and suffer on 3 legs was it really worth it?


What are other people's thoughts on shooting at a deer the first time you fire a firearm? I put dozens of target rounds through my shotgun each year before I even think I'm ready for season.


I realize the devil's advocates will say it's perfectly possible to make a bad shot on a gun you've been using for 20 years, however I think it's much less likely than if you'd never fired especially if you're 9!

I woudl have hated to get onle like that at that age..
