Help out my grandpa!
My grandpa is approaching 71 years of age. He has a .243 that he loves to shoot coyotes on his farm with. But the problem is with his eyesight and his scope. He shot a coyote 3 weekas ago but in order to do so he had to put his eye right on his scope just to see it, needless to say he split his head open but he said it was worth it. My question, does anyone know of a good scope that might be able to help im out? I don't think he wants to keep splitting his head open, I know how much he hates coyotes on his farm messing with his calfs and geese.

RE: Help out my grandpa!
why don't you get him some eyeglasses so he doesnt have to creep up on the scope like that? When you do that you are changing the parallax of the scope and he probably won't hit anything anyway. Try a pair of 1.5 to 2.5 diopter reading glasses from Walmart first and see if that helps him.

I use a .243 for coyotes and I use a Burris. I have to wear glasses sometimeswhen I shoot because of my eyes. Burris is a really good scope for people that have bad eyes and people with glasses.

RE: Help out my grandpa!
The very first step is to have an eye exam unless you're positive he's not in need of one. And then, if an exam is undertaken, ask the optometrist or opthamologist what the answer would be to the particular problem of eye relief for your grandfather.
Otherwise, if no exam is deemed necessary, take him to a local shop where they can pop some different scopes onto a stock for him to view through and check out. |

Get a longer eye relief scope. Something around 3.5 - 4 inches is plenty on a mild kicker like a .243.
