Mineral lick question

Last year I put out 10 mineral licks on my land. When the season got near I tilled up all the dirt in the area to get rid of the licks. But here is my question, Is it to late to refresh my mineral licks? Is March too late? Do the deer still need them? I would have done it sooner but i have been away at college this year and have not been able to make it home as much. Next weeek is spring break and I will have plenty of time to take care of thim if it will not be a waste.

My first question would be how big is your property. (10) mineral licks seems a bit much. I have (2) on my property. March would be a fine time to start. Good luck.

I have 100 acres. Not sure you would want that many mineral licks.

I agree. 10 licks seems a bit much. Usually about one lick for every 100 acres is enough. March is a perfect time to freshen them up. Bucks are just getting ready to begin the antler growing process and does will begin to need all the protein they can get as well.

Chris, What I Use is the minreal blocks and salt blocks for cattle. I bust hhem up with an ax into smaller chunks and when i put them out I also add some dried molasses from the feed mill and some vanilla extract. The sweet smells help the deer dind them a lot sonner. Good Luck!
